Conclusion
I strive to express my dedication and affection for the natural world and its phenomenal diversity through my artwork. This begins with an exploration of where we, as a human species, originated and the significant effects we have had on our planet. My work is a continual attempt to understand the evolution of Homo sapiens, specifically my own place within this history. I consider the social and cultural impacts of both our ancient and immediate ancestors and their relevance to our present time.
Reflecting on my familial ghosts and the loss of our planet’s species, I aim to raise awareness about our current situation on Earth and what may lie ahead. Our ancestors were not perfect; their journey has been one of survival through natural selection. Nevertheless, they passed on advantageous traits that shaped who we are today. The human story is one of constant adaptation, persistence, and resilience. Understanding our origins can help us appreciate the immense diversity of life on Earth and inspire us to protect and preserve it for future generations.
My work endeavours to express where we come from, where we are now, and where our future lies—all encapsulated in the wood of our planet’s magnificent, yet burning landscape and the loss of both our ecosphere and ethnosphere. The ghosts of our human history and their effects on our planet, living in the Anthropocene, should propel us to take action before it is too late.
Amid the global environmental crisis, the natural world urgently needs political, social, and economic interventions. Through my art, I strive to raise awareness and make a difference, highlighting the predicament our Earth faces. Will we be left with mere charcoal traces of what once was? Or will life begin anew from our ashes? The responsibility lies with us and critical intervention is now required.
